Purpose definitely has currency in recruiting the best talent, but it’s hardly limited to just millennials, or some generalized group of young professionals who are seen as being more idealistic. There is also a significant and growing segment of seasoned professionals who see that this is their time to move away from chasing promotions to chasing meaningful outcomes in their work. They do have to deal with more commitments and trade offs, but their desire to contribute to a strong organizational purpose or to do meaningful work that serves a strong social or environmental purpose, is no longer something that will be ignored when deciding whether to move or to stay.
