Accelerating Engineers • Intentional Expectations

Updated: Nov 11, 2021

Part 4 of 5 for the August edition of "Converging over Coffee"

Contradicting messages are sometimes our undoing.

We believe we are the best people to solve problems because we understand the system and know how to make things work. But when we are actually asked to provide the answers, do we quickly define the boundaries of our professional responsibilities? Or do we start to flex our ability to orchestrate the pieces in the system to make things work?

We are confident in our ability to put together and deliver innovative solutions. But when we are asked to execute on that, do we focus on the technological aspect of the solution and prepare to defend it? Or are we prepared to insert ourselves into the business end of the solution deployment & learn how to work with non-technical but critical business functions?

Pick the path that works for you. Just be intentional about creating the kind of expectations people have of us.
