Acceptance Lag • Convincing the Organization to Take on Opportunities and Changes

Updated: Nov 11, 2021

Part 2 of 5 for the April edition of "Converging over Coffee"

For many of us who operate in large organizational structures, we also know that we need to contend with another version of the Lag within our own organizations. You work with clients and your team to deliver solutions & services and see an opportunity or a vulnerability that you’re convinced needs to be addressed. You start to initiate a conversation about this and that's when the fun starts.

To really know how to attack this, I’ve learnt the hard way how important it is to understand the organizational context & culture. One that operates on the premise of trusting the good people on the job, will allow a dramatically different approach from one that over-indexes on management control & risk reduction.

I was blessed to have once worked in a place that had a strong solutions-driven enterprise, where I could - as my long time mentor @Tan Ngo Chiaw would say... Make sure you know what you’re doing, then... Do first. Ask for forgiveness after!
