Engineers as Leaders • Collaborative Leadership in Project Success

Updated: Nov 11, 2021

Part 3 of 5 for the June edition of "Converging over Coffee"

Project management to me is one of the critical competencies that will make or break every ambitious infrastructure project and every deployment of transformative technology. The one link in the delivery chain that has the potential to either create additional value or destroy most of the value invested upfront. Hence we should ask how it is being done.

In reality, the practice of project management is often viewed narrowly, by clients and by project managers themselves. Most behave like good project management is only measured by how well one manages deliverables, resources, costs & schedule. Real project success however also requires sharp skills in stewarding stakeholders coalitions and leading complex decision-making processes. This is what collaborative leadership looks like.
